Mark A. Castillo

Owner and founder of Metro Design House

When I say Metro Design House is lean and mean, by “lean” I mean one person – me, Mark. I’m a digital engagement, content creation marketing professional with experience in creative direction, conversion/growth strategy, and client relationship development.

I entered marketing as a designer. While studying at UW Eau Claire, I began taking computer science courses to learn web design. As soon as I figured how to make websites, I began pounding the pavement to sell them.

By graduation, my first entrepreneurial experiment was thriving. It was exciting and I loved every part of it! In the website creation process, I often lost track of time, pulling all-nighters to create websites for sale. At that time it became obvious to me that my enthusiasm for the work made all the difference in my success. That success then fed back into the process, snowballing the entire positive experience.

Today, digital marketing works in a very similar manner to that snowball effect. Online impressions are multiplied through social media, enabling the right kind of impression to grow by feeding its own popularity. Marketing doesn’t necessarily need to be “viral” in order to take advantage of the same online ecosystem where viral content thrives. Marketing technology is evolving at a rapid pace, changing the game like never before. It’s a really exciting time to be in the field, and even more exciting to share the fun with others!

It is rare if not impossible to find a recent graduate with so much quality industry experience. The fact that Mark maintains his own successful web and graphic design company is a testament to his proven skills and business savvy. We have utilized Mark’s skills with a number of our clients large and small. In fact Mark played a key role in perhaps the largest graphic design project in our company’s history which included initial packaging graphic design concepts for one of our tier one clients. Mark has repeatedly proven himself to be extremely capable, creative, and an excellent addition to our team. Above all, he’s a damn good guy!

A gifted graphic designer in a class of his own, Mark could turn any copy I wrote into an aesthetically appealing ad. His alluring layouts conveyed style and sophistication. We worked together on the marketing team for four years, collaborating on digital and print campaigns that elevated sales. Mark’s creativity and talent will take any brand to the next level.

Mark Castillo served as the primary technical adviser, web and communications designer, and IT consultant for the Colorado Independent, a small nonprofit news site based in Denver. In those diverse capacities he was called on to provide support to the organization trying to “punch above its weight”. Mark made the website beautiful, created the graphics for marketing and communications materials, and maintained the database of subscribers and donors. He has a wide range of skills and most important, a willingness to learn something new to respond to changing needs.
